KWHRO’s Press statement on the Current Political Situation in Myanmar
The Kuki Women’s Human Rights Organisation strongly condemn Myanmar military or the Tatmadaw’s seizure of power in a coup and imposition of a state of emergency for a year in the country on February 1, 2021 against the democratically elected government by detaining national leaders, ministers and Members of Parliament.
We welcome and whole heartedly support the nation-wide campaign for peaceful protest in the form of “Civil Disobedience Movement” against the Tatmadaw’s power coup in violation to the Constitution.
We appeal the Tatmadaw to respect the result of general election that was constitutionally held on November 8, 2020 and to release all the detainees – Members of Parliament including the state counsellor, Aung San Suu Kyi and the president, U Win Myint, and to hand over the power back to the Parliament.
The Kuki Women’s Human Rights Organisation hereby pledges to stand united in solidarity with all those who campaign against the military’s takeover of power by use of brute force.
